Airline Features Luxury Hotel Rooms At 35,000 Feet

by Jim Buckman
October 18, 2022

For most people, flying isn’t a very comfortable or luxurious experience. Most planes don’t have much leg room or the best food options for a long flight. They also require you to share your space with a bunch of other people, which can become quite aggravating. This all changes with Singapore Airlines’ new planes, which offer luxurious, private hotel style rooms from 35,000 feet in the air.

The airline’s planes boast brand new suites, allowing first class passengers to basically book a hotel room for their flight. Individual cabins can be booked or, for two people, adjacent rooms can be transformed into a double suite. This innovative new service seems to be a hit, which is perhaps no surprise coming from an airline that has been classified as the best airline in the world for nearly two decades.

Sleeping on a plane can be difficult, but these planes feature six suites with beds positioned perpendicularly to the windows, a privacy wall, and blinds to help passengers get some shut eye during their travels. All beds are separate from the seats, so no need to worry about converting an uncomfortable airplane seat into an uncomfortable bed. Passengers booking these suites will also receive complimentary slippers, socks, and eye shades to help them stay as comfortable as possible. The rooms even feature turn down service and cozy leather armchairs.

Designed with comfort in mind by Jean-Jacques Coste, a luxury yacht designer from France, each cabin is finished with brown and cream colors along with leather and wood accents to ensure passengers feel as cozy as possible.

When they’re not sleeping, travelers can enjoy the breathtaking view from their private windows or check out in-flight entertainment options on a 32 inch HD television. There are over 1,000 entertainment options available, including movies, TV shows, music, games, and apps. The suite even features wireless internet and noise cancelling headphones. If they start to get hungry, guests can order a variety of dishes from around the world prepared by celebrity chefs. A chaise lounge and table are included in the room to transform it into a dining space, but if they don’t want to dine in their rooms, passengers can enjoy a dine-in restaurant atmosphere with full table service.

The planes took their first flight from Singapore to Sydney and have so far been a success. The luxury accommodations aren’t for everyone, though. With all of these luxurious amenities, the rooms reportedly cost around $23,000 USD for a round trip.
